YouTube is taking a big step to combat the growing issue of AI deepfakes by partnering with Creative Artists Agency (CAA). This collaboration will provide a new tool to help creators and celebrities identify and manage AI-generated content that uses their likeness, including faces and voices. The tool aims to allow those affected to submit removal requests for unauthorized deepfake content. CAA provides a database of digital copies of the talent, which will be used to match and find the deepfakes on the platform.
The new technology is set to begin testing early next year, initially being offered to leading celebrity talent such as award-winning actors and top athletes. Following this initial test, the tool will be made available to top YouTube creators and other creative professionals. YouTube has stated that this partnership will act as a test of their technology to incorporate feedback. This initiative is intended to give content creators more control over the use of their digital identities online and address the increase in the use of AI to create fake content.
